I'm Jorge David Awe, author of Essence & Folly: Twelve Short Stories. Thank you for being interested in my writing.  

For Belizeans, I hope I've managed to capture in these stories the Folly—or edgy but infectious sense of humour—that makes us endearing to others as well as one another.  I believe this trait to be a significant part of our national character, something we rely on so often that we hardly notice how prevalent it is. 

For Canadians, Americans, and others, I hope these stories provide a glimpse into our Essence, a slice of Belize served through the eyes of one of its native sons. 

Or maybe I should wish the essence on Belizeans, and the folly on everyone else?  See?  Isn't this a perfect demonstration of the essence and folly in life?  In this spirit, my short story collection attempts to expose who we are at the core through the silly little things we say and do.
